Social Buying sites - giving you the best deals around
Groupon, LivingSocial, SocialBuy and BuyWithMe - these are all “social buying” websites that will find you the best deals on restaurants, hotels, museum tickets, spas, magazine subscriptions and more. They are becoming popular quick; beneficial for you and I, but also for small business to get word out about their company. You can either sign up to receive great deals in your area, or create a deal yourself, with your own business.
From my own personal experience, I can tell you that these sites are great. I’ve gotten two movie tickets for $9 and a discount to one of my favorite restaurants ($25 for dinner - worth $50). Sometimes you can save up to 90%.
You’re probably wondering what the catch is - well, there is a small one. Each deal will only become available to you if it reaches it’s “tipping point”. This means that the deal is only good if a certain amount of people sign up for the offer before it expires. For example, a Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs and Bruster’s Real Ice Cream in Hamilton, NJ is offering a $6 voucher that could buy $12 worth. This offer needs 15 buyers and “the deal is on!” Luckily, this particular offer had 330 buyers. But if the bar is set high, all you have to do is refer friends - and each friend that signs up through your referral link will get you a $10 bonus.
If you’re one to buy into any deal, you may spend a little bit more that you intend to, but if you regulate it well, you could really save. Plus, it may inspire some nice weekend trips or activities you’d never thought to try (like skydiving). Look into it if you haven’t already.
